Versatile Streaming Camera for Space Applications
Space Eye Camera for Use on Research Rockets and Launch Vehicles
The Full HD SE 320 Space Eye Camera Kit is designed for various space applications. Its robustness and thermal management for vacuum conditions make it ideal for space environments. High-quality data streams are recorded and/or transmitted via existing telemetry hardware directly from the camera to the ground station in selectable bandwidths.
The versatile Kappa Space Eye SE 320 camera was initially tested in a sounding rocket program with NASA-Wallops. Integrated into the rocket’s outer hull, it monitors engine performance and other functionalities during experimental sequences. H.264 data compression encoding is already built into the camera. The SE 320 modular design allows great flexibility in placement of the small camera head, which can be separated from the electronics body by up to 10 meters.
Space Eye Applications
FTI for Rocket Stages: video streaming for initial and secondary booster stages.
Rocket Launching from Winged Aircraft: capture detailed data during launches.
Near-Space Applications: for use on sounding rockets, launch vehicles, and high-altitude winged aircraft, both supersonic and subsonic (military and civilian missions).
Space Qualification
Cameras used in space face extreme conditions, including mechanical stresses and wide temperature ranges. Kappa Space Eye cameras offer extraordinary shock and vibration resistance, along with specific thermal management for vacuum conditions. The SE 320 is SWaP-optimized, essential for all space applications.

Telemetry Streaming & Recording
The SE 320 generates H.264-compressed video streams directly, eliminating the need for an additional encoder. It offers:
- Dual Streaming: High-resolution stream (recording) plus low-resolution stream (telemetry)
- High-Resolution Stream: High data rate (adjustable), H.264 compression
- Standard Stream: Lower data rate/bandwidth
- Loop recording: on integral SD card, FTP access
